A couple questions regarding labels and logos... 1) Is it possible that we could gather as many logos and labels as possible into one place for referrence and comparison? 2) What is a good ball-park price for hiring the layout design out to someone? While helping a co-worker with her college studies during our lunches, I found out that she is VERY artistic and can come up with fantastic drawings out of thin air. I asked her if she would be interested in designing a label and logo for me, and how much she might charge. Her reply was that she would do it, and she wouldn`t charge me anything. Well, I can`t take advantage of her time and skills for my own benefit. She`s a little naive to the business end of things, and so am I, for that matter. |

Coe, Here is my label, it contains my logo, the circle MP. This label is for my current commission. I make new Autocad file for each lable using a pre defined template file. This allows me to add the specific text to that commission. I sign and date the label when the guitar is finished. Andy DePaule makes up my peghead logos for me They are figured MOP circle MP with the fill either Paua Abalone or Gold MOP depending on the wood and appointments of the guitar. It is 1" in diameter

Thanks, Mike. That`s really nice! Is there a reason for showing the commissioned date vs the finished date? Just curious. |

I do this on general commissions because the finish date is hand signed. Typically if the guitar was commissioned as a gift or to commemorate a special event there will be a dedication in reference to this event like "built exclusively for (name), commissioned by his or her (whatever) in commemoration of (whatever)" I think this adds historical providence the the instrument |

Yep ink jet at 1200 dpi on ivory parchment then sprayed with an ink fixative |

She's probably excited about seeing her work in print, and she can use it as a springboard if she wants to sell her work later. I don't think you'd be taking advantage. Just thank her, buy her lunch, and pay it forward, my friend.

I use 3M spray ahhesive I forget which formula, as the manke several but it is plyable for about two hours |

Hey, you know what? I'm a year removed from being a student now. When I was a student, I was the only student to do official projects for the school at the lovely rate of $360 a unit - that I paid them. I never cared. It was great just to actually be doing something real. I say, surprise her. I paid $180 four or five years ago for a professionally designed logo. That included a few hours of research looking at pictures and artwork of lions, and a couple options. I don't think she will be doing all that, but $100 definitely wouldn't be insulting or flattering. As a student, $100 meant a few weeks of self-indulgence. Heck, it still does. (I'm talking about fetuccini alfredo and burgers, btw. I don't drink). |
